Break the Rules
Break the Rules
For a lot of our life, we have rules.
Some for our benefit and safety.
Don’t run on the pool deck.
Fasten your seatbelt.
Be home by your curfew (which I think we only “get” after we become parents).
Then there are inaccurate rules we’ve heard our whole life.
Wait to get back into the pool after eating; otherwise, you will get a cramp and drown.
Don’t eat that snack; it will spoil your appetite.
Redheads should never wear red. What? Says who? (I was told this as a child by my mom, whose mom also said this.)
There are rules you may need to realize you are hearing.
You can’t eat that food (fill in the blank) – it is terrible for you. It will kill you. It will cause cancer. One time? That is not going to happen.
Don’t go out in the cold with wet hair, or you will catch a cold. You may get cold (chilly), but merely being outside with wet hair isn’t what attracts a cold virus.
You must work out to earn that margarita tonight. You must burn off the pizza from last night. Not even close. Food patterns and exercise are two primary components of health, but one is not punishment or reward for the other.
What are those “rules” you have been told your entire life?
Are you ready to let them go for your overall well-being and maintain your health?
Do you believe you can get there without restrictions and the perception of sacrifice, deprivation, and punishment?
And consider this: some of the “rules” are so ingrained in us that we don’t even notice them.
We don’t even know that they aren’t valid or necessary.
So as you go through your days this coming week, can you consider some of those things we tell ourselves that are “rules” and what you don’t have to follow?
We have our upcoming workshops and programs. We invite you to join us at our next event or contact us today to learn more.
