Give Yourself Some Grace

Do you ever feel like you let yourself down?

We all let ourselves down occasionally or often, depending on what we are trying to do (or not) to reach a goal or make a change. Whatever that is, it can be something as small as you are going to make sure you eat some veggies today, but you don't, or you are going to begin a new exercise routine, but you don't, or today you are not going beat yourself up about every little thing, but you do. And with each passing moment, the chatter in your head is telling you what you failed at, reminding you that you haven't followed thru again with that promise you made to yourself. Let me ask you, is this dialogue helpful? Yeah, I get it. You did not succeed today, but you know what you did do? You reminded yourself that that goal or change is important to you. You can see that it keeps showing up in your mind as criticism because you really want it. Maybe, you just haven't figured out how to go about it yet, or the ways you have tried aren't how it will ultimately work for you. That is not failure. That is valuable information. You only fail when you quit trying.

Yes, we want to make changes in our lives. We want to hit our goals, and we desperately wish the narrative in our heads to quit gnawing at us daily. We want to feel empowered and proud of ourselves because we finally conquered and accomplished it, and we are now free to move on to whatever the next thing is. Remember, life is a journey, not a destination quest.

How about today, you give yourself some grace?

Perhaps today, you can think of ways to approach it differently? Maybe journal about it, talk it through with a good friend, ask for support, or post reminders on your morning mirror of what is important to you.

And maybe, give yourself a break, accept that today was not the day, and try again tomorrow. Also, remember that you can hit the reset button every moment of every day and simply make this the moment you try again.

You hold the key, and you will turn the knob when you are ready.

Have a beautiful day.
